Scattered throughout the desolate, high desert landscapes of the American Southwest, stand a strange and statuesque plant called Joshua Trees. Despite the name, the Joshua tree is a member of the Yucca family, which is characterized by their sword-like leaves and white bell-shaped flowers. In order to survive, these drought-tolerant, otherworldly beings share a delicate, yet crucial relationship with Tegeticula Yuccasella, or the Yucca Moth. 

These moths plays an important role in the survival of the Joshua trees, and vice versa. Without the moth, the yucca plant would lose its only pollinator, and the moth would lose its food source and sheltered bloom where it lays its eggs. This is called obligate mutualism - a necessary biological relationship where at least one, but in this case, both species can’t survive without the other. Their partnership ensures the Joshua Tree can bloom and the moth species can thrive - a living example of true symbiosis. 

Bloomline Collective was inspired by this unique relationship. Bloom represents symbiosis, support and the growth that happens when we nurture one another. Line is the invisible thread that connects us all through our experience, communities and stories. Through photography, storytelling and conversations, Bloomline aims to create spaces where real-life connections and community can thrive. 

At Bloomline, our mission is to bridge the gap between identity and lived experience and connect people through intentional storytelling featured in our online publication and local speaker series. We believe that our stories are as symbiotic to human connection and community as the Joshua tree and the moth - that one cannot truly bloom without the other.
